| Description | Success at last! I have been trying since 2012 to get a decent picture of the Leafy Seadragon but have had very poor results due to poor lighting in the aquariums and the animals being in constant motion. (see my Ocean Park Hong Kong album). I finally succeeded here, in the Ripley's Aquarium of Canada! Bravo my Nikon D7000 dSLR! Well, enough self gloating. This unusual looking animal here is the Leafy Seadragon. The leafy seadragon or Glauert's seadragon, Phycodurus eques, is a marine fish in the family Syngnathidae, which includes seadragons, pipefish, and seahorses. It is the only member of the genus Phycodurus. It is found along the southern and western coasts of Australia. The name is derived from the appearance, with long leaf-like protrusions coming from all over the body. These protrusions are not used for propulsion; they serve only as camouflage.
