Las galaxias lenticulares son un tipo intermedio de galaxias entre las elípticas y las espirales. Tienen un disco pero carecen de brazos espirales aunque pueden exhibir barra. NGC 1023 es una galaxia lenticular barrada incluida en el Atlas de Galaxias Peculiares de Halton Arp en la categoría de "Galaxias con fragmentos cercanos" con el número 135. Al estudiar la dinámica de la galaxia se descubrió un agujero negro supermasivo central que tiene una masa de 4.4±0.5×10^7 M☉ La galaxia más azulada que aparece justo a la izquierda sobre el disco en NGC1023A, una galaxia espiral enana tipo magallanes (con un solo brazo espiral) Exposición 25x300s, 10-10-2023 0.4m F10
