| Description |
English: Na hAilichi (Allihies): Former copper mine This prominent landmark above Allihies village is the main engine house of the Mountain Mine, one of the old copper mines, all of which had ceased working by the 1930s. The engine house dates from 1862. Many Cornish miners were attracted to work in the mines, and the mine-captains were also mainly Cornish. The whole area around Allihies has numerous mineshafts and one of the adits can be seen in the lower left foreground. |
