(4 Stories) Materials: Limestone, glass Program: Exhibit spaces, research library, oral history center, administrative offices, education center, art studio, recording studio The National Hellenic Museum is located on Halsted in Chicago’s famous Greektown. The Museum was the first established institution in the US to celebrate and display works of the Ancient Greeks and their Greek American ancestors. Everything from the materials used to the internal structures reflect the lives of the Greeks and their Ancient Ancestors. The most prominent symbol is the sky-lit-east-to-west staircase, which was built in order to represent the experience of immigration of the Greeks as well as their overcome hardships and limitless potential. |
