Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum), Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and items from World War II and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945, located in Svolvær, Norway:
  • Improvised Nazi Germany winter uniform used in World War II by a Waffen-SS Panzergrenadier (motorised or mechanized infantry):
    • Soviet Red Army quilted jacket (military style telogreika, fufaika, vatnik, a Russian warm cotton wool-padded coat) with German insignia added:
    • SS style 'arm eagle' (SS Hoheitszeichen, Ärmeladler, 'sleeve eagle', Ärmelhoheitsabzeichen, 'national emblem for the sleeve'), a woven "eagle-and-swastika" patch on left sleeve. In March 1936, Hitler approved a new art deco imperial eagle (Reichsadler) with staggered wingtips for the SS, which was worn through the end of the war as a cap badge and on the sleeve.
    • Shoulder straps (Schulterklappen) for enlisted men (see ranks and insignia of the Waffen-SS) piped in white corps colour (Waffenfarbe) indicating "Panzergrenadier"
