Summary[edit]

Description

Two Nebraska Army National Guard UH-72 Lakota helicopters from Company A, 1-367th Aviation (Security & Support) Regiment were tasked with a survey mission, Sept. 13, to evaluate storm damage and ensure flooded areas were free of stranded civilians along the St. Johns River in northern Florida. While conducting reconnaissance, the teams noticed heavy flood damage along the river's docks, homes, boats and trees. Fortunately, however, the area was deemed clear of any civilians in distress.

Staff Sgt. Tony Brollini, a flight medic with Company G, 2-104th General Support Aviation Battalion, took part on the mission, flying in a Lakota helicopter for the first time, ready to use the aircraft's hoist if needed to rescue any stranded civilians if there would have been a need. Brollini is one of approximately 100 Soldiers, most from the Nebraska Army National Guard's 1-367th Aviation (S&S) Regiment, currently serving on State Active Duty out of Jacksonville, Florida, in support of Hurricane Irma relief and recovery operations. The battalion is manning an aviation task force headquarters to provide command and control operations for aircraft conducting relief efforts throughout northern Florida, including managing and tasking air assets from multiple states based on mission request requirements and aircraft capabilities.
