Summary[edit]
DescriptionNepalese Hindu Caste System.png |
English: Nepalese Hindu Caste System, a direct derivative of Varnashram model of Hindu social code. The Varna model was initially used for categorization of people on the basis of their nature of work but has been wrongfully affixed to social categorization by birth in specific Varna/Caste. Bahuns (priests, teachers), the Kshetri/Chhetris (rulers, administrators, and warriors), the Vaishyas (merchants, tradesmen), and Shudra/Dalits (artisans, labourers, and farmers). Shudra and Dalit, both different categories in Indian social code, were/are considered indistinctive and synonymous in Nepalese social code. The model is discriminatory. |
