Summary[edit]

Description

There is only one pleasure to surpass long distance cycling, that is, even longer distance coach travel. The belgian half decker has just returned from a trip to Poland. I don't think it went all the way. I just can't remember the transfer point between polish and belgian vehicles. The previous year, I sampled the Gdynia holiday, with a transfer at Stargard, near Szczecin with a very bumpy and uncomfortable ride through the former German Pomerania.

The elegant Romanian coach here was not part of the expedition to Zakopane, though New Millennium did operated holidays overland to Romania and especially to Heviz in Hungary.

The New Millennium concern run by Clifford Hards specialised in 99 tours from Ramsgate to Poland etc. with half board accommodation. Real pioneering stuff. The fine modern Romanian coach is operated by S.C. "TURISM MUNTENIA" S.A. STR. PIATA MUNTENIA,Nr.1 110063, Pite?ti Arge? , ROMANIA Muntenia being an historical province of Romania New Millennium's regular operator was De Durme Reizen bvba. Tweebruggenstraat 41. B-9160 LOKEREN Belgium Notice the Sally Line terminal, serving the route from Ramsgate between 1993 and November 1998 when it was terminated as uneconomic. New Millennium Travel lasted into the new millennium, with a few special trips, then faded away. The current De Durme fleet can be found here under Wagenpark This particular coach, Berkhof Excellence 2000HD bodied Scania K113 KUH860, was new in 1992. The guy with the waistcoat is one of the two drivers, chatting to a pair of Reading City councillors who were on the trip. Was this Romanian coach also contracted to New Millennium?? Certainly tours were run to Heviz on Lake Balaton in Hungary in the same period. Details about the Romanian tour company here

Clifford Hards was a millionaire environmentalist who started his own newspaper The Planet on Sunday which lasted one issue in June 1996, not long before this photo was taken, but sold 115,000 copies.
