Summary[edit]

Description
English: On the roundabout at the junction of Victoria Avenue and Salisbury Street, this fountain was switched on in a ceremony on 8 July 2023, but presumably switched off again fairly soon afterwards, as it was not in action here, the day after.

An original 1875 fountain here was taken down in 1927, along with two others nearby, when they were considered a traffic hazard. Over the last decade campaigners have raised £150,000 towards this 13ft-high replacement Link .

Inspiration originally came from Philip Larkin’s poem 'Water' the first line of which is inscribed around the fountain. His publisher, the late Jean Hartley, lived on Victoria Avenue and was keen to have a water feature in memory of the poet, somewhere in Hull.
