Nederlands: In de zeventiende en achttiende eeuw zijn er in Japan weinig verharde wegen. Wielvoertuigen zijn dan ook niet erg geschikte vervoermiddelen. De draagstoel (norimono) is daarom het uitgelezen vervoermiddel voor mensen die het kunnen betalen.
English: Few roads were paved in Japan in the seventeenth and eighteenth century so that vehicles on wheels were not the most suitable. The sedan chair (norimono) was, therefore, the ideal means of transport for people who could afford it.
