Summary

Description

North West Slob, County Wexford, Ireland

English: Pump station close to the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve as seen from the dam. From the information panel close to the pump house: The North Slob lies three metres below sea level. A pumping system is therefore needed to remove surplus rainwater. According to the panel, the pumping station was built in 1850, initially with a Watt Steam Pump. A six-cylinder diesel engine replaced the initial pump in 1912 which in turn was replaced by another diesel engine in the 1950s. Since 1968/69 an electric pump is installed which is still in use and can pump 64 tons of water into the sea per minute. Registered in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage under regno 15703805. According to the NIAH record, the pumping station was restored in 1991.
