Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum) in Svolvær, Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller items related to the Second World War and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945:
  • Museum mannequin wearing a Swedish-designed military uniform worn by a police soldier of the "Reserve Police" (Reservepolitiet), the Norwegian military force trained in Sweden from 1943 to 1945 during the German occupation of Norway in World War II, and serving in Norway after the war from 1945 to 1947.
    • Swedish green side cap (forage cap) and uniform with Norwegian insignia, buttons with "Norwegian lion"
    • Norwegian M31 steel helmet (originally Swedish M1926)
    • Black armband (brassard) with Politi (i.e. "Police") written in red
    • Norwegian military proficiency badges (lapel pins) on the jacket:
      • Norwegian military Sharpshooter (Marksmanship) Badge (Det militære skarpskyttermerke)
      • Norwegia military Foot March Badge/Military Marching Proficiency Award (Det militære marsjmerke, with the inscription "Værg dit land" – "Defend Your Country")
      • Norwegian Sports Badge (Idrettsmerket) 1915–1945
    • Brown leater belt with shoulder strap (Sam Browne-belt), pistol holster, and cross strap with national Police insignia on a metal badge
    • The Norwegian police troops in Sweden during the war consisted of around 15,000 men, recruited from Norwegian refugees and trained at a number of secret camps in Sweden. When Germany surrendered in May 1945, the forces were sent into the country, where they, together with the resistance movement (Hjemmefronten), secured strategic points and captured German soldiers and Norwegians suspected of collaboration. The force was disbanded during 1947, and some of the members transitioned into jobs in the police and sheriff departments.

  • Reservepolitiet, rundt 13 000 mann, fikk militær opplæring, mens Rikspolitiet, rundt 1 500 mann, fikk politiopplæring. De deltok i frigjøringen av Finnmark, løste ordensoppgaver og arresterte kollaboratører etter Tysklands kapitulasjon i mai 1945, og dannet grunnlaget for en ny politietat etter krigen. Troppene bidro til et ordnet regimeskifte sammen med Hjemmestyrkene og gjenværende tyske soldater under parolen «Verdighet, ro, disiplin». Troppene ble oppløst i 1947.
