Description
English: Weapons and armour from the Middle Ages in Norway: crossbow with two spanning mechanisms (windlass and cranequin) and arrow (bolt, quarrel). From the exhibitions of the Armed Forces Museum of Norway (Forsvarsmuseet) in Oslo, Norway. Photo taken on 2019-03-31.
Norsk bokmål: Våpen og annet fra norsk middelalder: armbrøst (låsbue) med to typer spennemekanismer (blant annet «gjetfot») og armbrøstpil.
Fra de militærhistoriske utstillingene i Forsvarsmuseet på Akershus festning i Oslo: Forsvaret i middelalderen – forsvaret i forfall. [...] Armbrøsten er utviklet fra oldtidens kastemaskiner. I Norge nevnes armbrøsten første gang i sagaen om slaget i Hjørungavåg år 986. I 1139 forsøkte kirken å forby bruk av armbrøst da det var «et alt for morderisk våpen til bruk mellom kristne.»
