Summary
[edit]DescriptionNorwich Cathedral, West window (48387030841).jpg |
The 9 light west window is the largest window in the Cathedral. The subjects depicted are parallels between the Old and the New Testament, and feature:- The visitation of the Magi, Pharaoh's daughter finding Moses in the bulrushes, Moses and the brazen serpent, The Ascension, Moses on Mount Sinai, and Christ teaching the New Law in the Temple. The tracery contains Angels, Saints and prophets along with architectural features, and dates from the early 15th C. The glass was designed and made by George Hedgeland in 1854 at a cost of £1500. Originally the colours were muted with a varnish, which has now been removed. The window is in memory of Edward Stanley, Bishop of Norwich 1837 to 1849. |
