Dappled light on the bark of a mature Oak in Benhall Woods, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK, April 2018

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The trees in Benhall Woods were planted to stabilise an artificial bank made from spoil when the railway was built. As a result, although there is considerable diversity in the wood (ten native UK tree species) all the mature trees were the same age in 2018. There had been very little thinning, and the density of the plantation meant that the trees were all very tall and thin with most branching in the canopy.
