Summary[edit]

Description
English: Obelisk erected in 1819 to honour the victims of the napoléonic troops, fallen on January 6, 1809 to defend Zamora.
Emboldened by a successful skirmish against an enemy outpost the day before, more volunteers from Zamora, overvaluing their capabilities, went to face the French war machine again on the 6th of January 1809.  By the end of the day, about 150 had died and were left abandoned on the battlefield without burial till October 1813, i.e. towards the end of napoléonic régime in Zamora.
