Summary[edit]
DescriptionOddfellows Hall, Forrest Road - geograph.org.uk - 1350226.jpg |
English: Oddfellows Hall, Forrest Road. Named after a Friendly Society, the Hall, designed by John Hay, was built in 1872 as an investment, comprising shops, a hall with a seating capacity for 600, a smaller hall for 300, and various rooms for public speakers, entertainers and committee meetings. The halls could be rented for social functions, e.g. weddings, dances, whist drives etc. Sculptured figures on the facade represent Faith, Hope and Charity. The Hall was sold in 1953 and, after various uses, ranging from a Hare Krishna Temple to a second-hand record mart, is now a public house.
