Predecessor to the Old Gym was a ramshackle building that was referred to as The Shed. It provided space for fitness, but it also served as a stable for commuters’ horses, a store-room for gardening tools, and even shared walls with a chicken coop! The students set the shed ablaze. in morning hours of April 13, 1886. Following an investigation and disciplinary action, the students finally got their wish for a new real gym, but they still had to wait until 1892. The new building was what later called the "Old Gym".
