This is a view looking west from the 'watertower' on the top of Finch House, the administration building of the Old Manor hospital. It was taken on a Sunday about 1995. In the centre can be seen a wooden chalet style building (b 1960) used at one time as a nursing administration office, later as a hotel services office. Lower left the small single room was used for many years during the mid 20th century as the barber's shop. To the extreme upper left next to the tree is Crane Ward. Just below it is another prefabricated building used as a nursing administration office (1980) and later as a hotel services office. The two slates roofs to the right cover what was Deverill Ward (lower) and Ebble Ward (higher). The white building with 5 windows in the right background was Avon House, the single story building in front and slightly left was Nightingale Ward. The pointed tree in mid picture is a Liriodendron tulipifera (Tulip Tree) planted in the mid-eighties as a memorial to Dan Callaghan, a nursing officer who died in service. The low, rounder tree to its the right is an eriobotrya japonica, (Loquat), probably planted by Dr Samuel Martin who had a great love of plants. In the background, slightly left can be seen the slate roofs of Wylye Ward which was originally a row of railwaymen's cottages. The dark-coloured building to the middle left is part of the Elizabeth Barker Day Hospital.
