Summary[edit]
DescriptionOldway mansion, Paignton - geograph.org.uk - 692980.jpg |
English: Oldway mansion, Paignton The Oldway mansion was later modelled on the palace of Versailles by the Singer family. What a grand notion for Paignton. Did this somehow sow the seeds of the fantastic and fanciful idea that Torbay was the English Riviera? However, this may be an unfair comment as the Paignton urban District Council bought it for £45,0000 in 1946 and it became available to all the local residents for their enjoyment. It is fine place to walk and remains remarkably unspoilt by vandalism even in 2008. There are plans to sell off parts of it for housing or other development. Thank you, Torbay Council. |
