Deutsch: Olgahöhle, in Honau, am Albtrauf. Honau und die Höhle liegen auf einer großen Kalktuffbarre, einem Sediment, dessen Kalk unmittelbar nach den Karstquellen der Echaz chemisch aus dem Karstwasser ausgefällt wurde – hauptsächlich in der wärmsten Zeit des Holozäns (Atlantikum). Holziges und sonstiges, pflanzliches Material wurde mit eingelagert und hinterließ die sichtbaren Formen und Hohlräume; Kalk in Wachstum einbeziehende Algen bildeten kugelige oder tropfenförmige Gebilde. Die Höhle entstand also nicht in uralten Prozessen in festen Kalksteinschichten, sondern ist eine so genannte „Primärhöhle“, (gleichalt wie die Barre). English: Primary cave “Olgahöhle”, in Honau, Swabian Alb. The village rests on a huge platform of travertine, a sediment, which was chemically precipitated, mainly in the warmest and moistest period of the Holocene (Atlantic), right behind the karst springs of river Echaz. Woody and other plant material were jacketed, bio-chemical accretionary structures were built by various microorganisms. By mining the travertine cave was discovered in 1874. |
