Molecular signals which guide axon crossing and non-crossing at the chiasm during development.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Most RGC axons cross the chiasm during development. However, those originating from the ventrotemporal region of the eye in animals with forward-oriented stereoscopic vision do not cross. Several molecular signals guide the crossing and prevent exiting from the tract. The interaction of Ephrin-B2 with EphB1 receptors on the ventrotemporal RGCs is both necessary and sufficient to repel crossing.
