Orbitides[edit]

Orbitides are plant cyclic peptides that are produced by post-translational modification of precursor proteins. This class of peptides is made of proteinogenic amino acids that are produced by ribosomal synthesis and these natural products occur in significant quantities in some plant species. Sequence analysis has confirmed the presence of precursor genes that correspond to known orbitides in Euphorbiaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Linnaceae, and Rutaceae[1].
