Object history
English: The wall hanging is a gift donated by Roman Sanguszko to the Museum in 1983 from the former collections at Podhorce Castle (Ukraine). The seventeenth-century castle in Podhorce was offered to Prince Jakub Sobieski (son of John III Sobieski) in 1682. In 1754 Wacław Rzewuski, a successive owner of Podhorce, brought over the outfitting from Olesko Castle - the birthplace and residence of John Sobieski. Among the numerous souvenirs of the king, the Rzewuski collections included, i.a. the supposed bed of John III. An archival photograph from the second half of the nineteenth century shows the Mosaic Cabinet in Podhorce, known at that time as the Bedchamber of King John III, where an embroidered tapestry, very similar to the one in Wilanów collection, hangs next to the royal bed.
