| Description |
English: Up fast freight passing through Oxford station. View NE, towards Banbury, Birmingham etc., also Worcester etc.: ex-GWR West Midlands main lines. The freight is headed by Collett-design 4-6-0 No. 6911 'Holker Hall' (built 1/41, withdrawn 9/65). The scene gives an impression of the bottleneck at GWR Oxford station, which had only Down and Up through platform lines and few bays, prior to its complete rebuilding in 1971. It was constantly active with all manner of rail traffic and was one of the only stations in the country that was regularly visited by locomotives of all the other three Railway Groups. |
