Memorial plaque at the quarter of the builders of the Palace of Culture and Science

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A memorial plaque in Polish and in Russian at the entrance to the quarter holding the remains of the Soviet builders of "Stalin's gift" to Poland, i.e. the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. As the only such building in Poland, as a building built in Soviet style and as a structure that was to be named "Stalin's Palace", it should rather be regarded as a symbol of imposed Soviet influence in Poland than as a gift. During the construction of the palace, 13 Soviet workers died. They were not transported back to Russia, but were buried at the Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Warsaw.
