Description
Français : Située entre l'ancienne ville haute et la ville basse, la place de la République marque le point d'union entre le centre ancien, bourgeois et commerçant largement reconstruit après l'incendie de 1720, et la ville plus populaire des faubourgs du sud, auparavant séparés par la Vilaine aujourd'hui recouverte à cet endroit. Point de passage très fréquenté du grand plateau piétonnier, point de jonction de nombreuses lignes de bus et doté d'une station de métro, la place est dominée par la majestueux palais du Commerce qui demeure l'un des monuments les plus emblématique de la ville. En février 2019, suite à la décision de la Municipalité et de la Poste, propriétaire du palais du Commerce, un grand projet de rénovation du bâtiment et de la place devrait voir le jour d'ici quelques années...
