Le sigle CPA signifie Centre de Portance Aérodynamique. C'est le point d'application des efforts aérodynamiques s'appliquant sur la toile du parapluie. Comme ce CPA est en arrière de l'axe de pivot, le parapluie fait toujours face au vent (qui vient de la droite comme le montre les penons) alors qu'on s'attend à le voir se retourner, le contrepoids à droite, pour se présenter comme un parachute.
L'axe de pivot permet au parapluie de faire la girouette.
Ce penon indique le sens du vent (qui vient de la mer). Ce vent est renforcé par l'effet venturi causé par la falaise.
La toile du parapluie a une forme proche de la calotte sphérique. Or le point d'application des forces aérodynamiques de pression sur une calotte sphérique est au centre géométrique de cette calotte (qui est aussi le centre géométrique de la sphère complète). Sur l'image, ce centre est repéré par le sigle CPA. Voir la vidéo de cette expérience ici.
Très contre intuitivement, tout se passe donc, du point de vue aérodynamique, comme si la toile du parapluie était concentrée au CPA.
