Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Passing Place on the Great Orme Tramway The "tram" is actually a funicular railway hauled by a cable concealed in the slots between the rails at this point. A funicular railway has two vehicles connected and counterbalance on a length of cable so that one descends as the other ascends so at the half way point they have to pass. In this case rather than have two separate tracks, or a single track with the complication of pointwork, the upper section is interleaved to save space.
