Typed letter, black text on white paper.

Payne Williams Claire Towers Columbia, S. C. February 11, 1963 Refer to: D66 Mr. James B. Myers, Superintendent Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Dear Mr. Myers: Thank you for your letter of January 16. We accept your suggested site for the South Carolina Memorial. Our plans regarding the monument have been formulated. The design we have accepted is by Mr. J. B. Hill of Tate, Georgia. The actual construction will be under the supervision of Mr. Harry V. Connolly of the Bruns Monumental Company. Both of these gentlemen will shortly be in touch with you and furnish blueprints for your approval. However, it is my understanding from Mr. Hill, who also designed the Alabama Memorial of Gettysburg, that our memorial will meet all of your specifications. For their information, I would appreciate hearing from you as to the exact size of the area available to us, distance back from Confederate Avenue, and elevation above the road. Further, may I have your suggestions as to the best day and time, during the commemoration, for our dedication ceremonies. Also, would you suggest that we coordinate our plans through the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association as well as your office? Again I thank you for your kind and prompt cooperation and look forward to being with you in July. Sincerely yours, Payne Williams Chairman, S. C. Committee for Gettysburg PW/f
