Summary[edit]

Description Kara Hellige, a Corps project manager from the Durango regulatory office in Colorado, displays a fresh sample of peat for Barbara Fix (in blue hat) and other members of the Native Plant Society of New Mexico during a field trip in the San Juan Mountains near Durango on July 19, 2015. Hellige volunteered to co-lead the tour for the New Mexico group’s annual meeting, which discussed topics like the legal definition of fens, how to identify wetlands, impacts to fens, restoration activities and the unique functions that fens provide to a watershed.
