English: Pewter medal.Bare head of James Sadler left. (obverse) A balloon with gondola suspended from it. (reverse) (reverse)/ Inscription content: ASCENDED FROM BIRMINGHAM TRAVERS'D UPWARDS OF 112 MILES . IN 1 HOUR & 20 MINUTES.

James Sadler's first ascent, together with Windham William Sadler, was on the 5th May 1785. The flight this medal commemorates was from Birmingham to Boston in Lincolnshire. Windham William Sadler (1796-1824), son of James, became a professional aeronaut and lost his life in a balloon accident.
