| Description |
Português: Pilrito-das-praias. Calidris alba (Pallas 1764) Pilrito-das-praias, Calidris alba (Pallas 1764). Ave originária do círculo polar ártico. As aves que chegam ao arquipélago da Madeira deverão ser originárias da Sibéria, Gronelândia e das regiões árticas do Canadá. A maior parte das aves migra para a América, África, Austrália e o Sul da Ásia para passar o inverno. É uma ave típica de praias abertas e amplas, onde, em geral, se move junto à rebentação. Também pode ser observada em foz de ribeiras e pequenas lagoas costeiras. É uma espécie invernante, que ocorre entre os meses de novembro e fevereiro. No Porto Santo, é anualmente encontrada na praia em pequenos bandos de 5 a 10 indivíduos, sendo facilmente reconhecida pela sua plumagem branca e corrida rápida. Alimenta-se sobretudo de pequenos invertebrados (moluscos, crustáceos e insetos) capturados na areia ou lama. |
