Summary[edit]

Description Native, warm season, perennial herb; hairs are absent to silky or very short stiff and spreading. Taproots are long, thick and fleshy. Leaves are basal, linear to ± oblanceolate, mostly 7–20 cm long, 2–22 mm wide and 3-veined, with entiremargins or with a few obtuse teeth. Hairs in the leaf axils are red-brown or golden-brown. Scapes are about as long as leaves. Flowerheads are spikes, mostly 4–12 cm long, and up to 20 in fruit. Sepals are 2.8–3.5 mm long. Corolla lobes are 1.4–2.3 mm long. Capsules are ellipsoidal and 2.8–4 mm long. Flowering is from spring to autumn. Grows in grassland, forest and woodland, often on heavy soil; widespread, from subcoastal districts to inland.
