Summary[edit]

Description
English: Plaque, Gallows Gate. The plaque referred to in 686744, expaining the legend of the robber hung when he and the sheep he had stolen fell on opposite sides of the gate he was climbing. It also commemorates the formation of Torquay as a borough in 1892, as at this point the boundaries of the parishes of Marldon, St Marychurch, Cockington and Kingskerswell met. The ancient Hundred court of Heytor is said to have met here.
