Summary[edit]

Description
English: Plaque marking Montrose's stay in Selkirk James Graham, 5th Earl and 1st Marquis of Montrose (1612-1650), was Charles I's most prominent supporter during a period of enormous political and religious strife in Scotland. A Border tale relates that he was not entirely welcome at his lodgings, as his hostess supposedly remarked whilst boiling a sheep's head that if it had been Montrose's head, she would ensure that the lid remained on the pot!
