Summary

[edit]
Description

USAID’s project, Clinical HIV/AIDS System Strengthening (CHASS), has carried-out several vehicles’ transfer events in the provinces of Niassa, Sofala, Tete and Manica during August 2013. These deliveries aim at supporting each Provincial Health Directorate in the provision of medical supplies such as antiretroviral drugs, HIV tests, reagents, and medicines and consumables for other health services, such as maternal and child health and malaria. One of the most critical challenges to good service provision in the provinces is lack of transport, which leads to delays and stock-outs of life-saving medicines. These vehicles will effectively help in overcoming these constraints.

The purpose of the project, Clinical HIV/AIDS System Strengthening (CHASS), in the 4 provinces is to reinforce the province’s health system by improving the quality and access of the delivery of HIV/AIDS and related primary health services while contributing to the joint Government of Mozambique and U.S. Government goals for health and HIV/AIDS.

US Ambassador, Douglas Griffiths, who headed the handover ceremony in Niassa province, said that “the delivery of these vehicles will serve to ensure that the provincial health department has the necessary tools to perform the important task of monitoring the activities related to Maternal and Child Health and HIV/AIDS and also provide technical assistance within the health units in the province of Niassa.”

The Clinical HIV/AIDS Services Strengthening Project is implemented by Abt Associates Inc. in Sofala, Manica, and Tete provinces and by FHI360 in Niassa province.
