Français : "Ce portrait au pastel représente une jeune femme portant un imposant bonnet. Son costume semble dater de la fin des années 1780. Le paraphe en bas à droite n’est pas identifié (« Co ou CuS » ?).
Ce portrait provient d’une collection privée liée à la manufacture de Niderviller. Il représenterait la Comtesse de Custine, Delphine de Sabran (1770-1826). En 1787, Dephine de Sabran épouse Armand de Custine, qui reçoit la seigneurie de Niderviller avec sa manufacture. C’est à Niderviller que Delphine de Custine, donnera naissance à son deuxième fils, Astolphe de Custine en mars 1790, avant d’être emprisonnée huit mois aux Carmes au moment de la Révolution. Son fils évoque dans La Russie en 1839 le soutien à sa libération apporté par les ouvriers de Niderviller conduits par la fille de J-B. Malriat directeur de la manufacture (de 1737 à 1759) et le souvenir qu’ils en avaient : « présent dans tous les cœurs ». Delphine de Custine habile portraitiste est un personnage romanesque qui inspira ses amis Mme. De Staël et Chateaubriand. Si quelques peintures de Delphine de Custine sont connues, elle a également peint une théière de Niderviller avec un décor en grisaille de petit feu." [1] |
