Summary[edit]
DescriptionPossible Methane Sources and Sinks on Mars.jpg |
English: This image illustrates possible ways methane might be added to Mars' atmosphere (sources) and removed from the atmosphere (sinks). NASA's Curiosity Mars rover has detected fluctuations in methane concentration in the atmosphere, implying both types of activity occur on modern Mars. In this graphic formaldehyde and methanol are examples of intermediate products in the oxidation of methane wwith eventual end products CO2 and water, through reactions with atomic oxygen, water and OH produced by photolysis of water (energy from the light splitting the water molecule) [1] |
