Description

MPA) Center give the “thumbs up” while visiting an MPA located at the center of the Monterey Bay coastline, Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve. The visit was part of the MPA Center’s operational and strategic planning meeting this June. The MPA Center is charged with developing an effective national system of MPAs to protect the nation’s significant natural and cultural resources. It works closely with federal and state MPA programs, tribes, and stakeholder groups to effectively carry out its mission. The West Coast is at the forefront of federal, state, and tribal MPA activity, and the MPA Center is leading a collaborative initiative there to pilot some of the key methods and approaches for designing and managing an effective regional system of MPAs.
