Sent by a nurse, Margaret Ripley, to her mother back in England. As far as I can tell (corrections and additions welcome) this reads: "28.1.15 Letter received today. Hope parcels will have better luck & find me some day. Today we had visit from White[?] from Dunkirk & Mr Morgan a Guy's man they bought us [???] shirts, slippers socks etc such a nice crate full. Don't send [???] or too much rather spend money here most kind of everyone. The administrator thinks we have everything neccessary & they say will not like to see our [stoves/stores???]. Don't worry we are a long way from [D? Dunkirk???] though can hear guns booming in distance & don't expect a card directly you hear of raids as I may not know of them but still will write often. Love Mar" Then in a slightly darker ink, suggesting it was written later "another raid[?] out[?] last night" This is the first sign we have seen in the cards of the reality of war and her presence close to the front.
