Description

English: Gas Station, located in the city of Guaratinguetá, at Clube dos 500, km 60 of via Dutra. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, between 1951/1953, at the request of Orozimbo Roxo Loureiro, the creator of the Clube dos 500.

The shape of the letter K of the 8 columns can be attributed to President Juscelino Kubitschek's surname of Czech origin.

Niemeyer was JK's favorite architect, who, during his terms as mayor of Belo Horizonte (1940-1946) and governor of Minas Gerais (1951-1955), had commissioned Niemeyer for several projects, both for Diamantina, JK's hometown, and to Belo Horizonte.

Three years after Niemeyer designed the 11 projects of the Clube dos 500, including the Gas Station, he was invited by President Juscelino Kubitschek to carry out one of the largest and noblest works in the world of the 20th century: the construction of the new capital of Brazil, inaugurated on 04/21/1960.

Since 01/30/2023, the Gas Station, as well as the other works of the Clube dos 500 by Oscar Niemeyer, have been listed by the Government of the State of São Paulo, Condephaat.
