Português: Poupa, no Porto Santo conhecida como Pimpão, Upupa epops (Linnaeus 1758) Poupa, no Porto Santo conhecida por pimpão, Upupa epops (Linnaeus 1758). Uma das aves mais fáceis de identificar, pela sua silhueta, A coloração alvinegra das asas, o bico comprido e curvo, e a sua poupa, que abre em semicírculo. O canto, embora em tom baixo, também é distintivo. Nidifica exclusivamente no Porto Santo; no entanto, existem registos da sua presença em todas as ilhas do arquipélago da Madeira. Ocorre essencialmente em áreas abertas e secas de vegetação rasteira que apresentem núcleos arbustivos, em áreas agrícolas e em campos de golfe. É sempre observada isolada ou aos pares, e constrói os seus ninhos em cavidades de árvores, montes de pedras e ruínas. Alimenta-se de insetos e suas larvas. |
