Peint en 1817 à Twickenham, près de Londres, où séjournait alors la famille d'Orléans.

L'artiste-peintre française, Adèle Tornézy-Varillat, dite "Madame Varillat, séjourne à Londres et expose aux expositions annuelles de la Royal Academy of Arts de 1816 à 1820.
English: Portrait of Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans (1810-1842), 'than duc de Chartres', eldest son of the futur French King Louis-Philippe.

Painted in 1817, when Louis-Philippe and his family lived in Twickenham, in a villa by the Thames, that was called ever since the Orléans House. The French painter, Adèle Tornézy-Varillat ('Madame Varillat) lived in London and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1816 and 1820.
