Description
Stadsprofiel van Amsterdam gezien vanaf het IJ. Links in het beeld vaart het fregat Peter en Paul. Het werd, mede door tsaar Peter de Grote, gebouwd en in 1698 te water gelaten. Gesuggereerd wordt dat de tsaar, met een verrekijker in de hand, op de achterplecht gestaan zou hebben van het jacht dat ter rechterzijde gestaan zou hebben, om de terwaterlating te bekijken. Dit is onjuist. Op dat moment was Peter de Grote niet in Amsterdam. Langs de onderrand een lijst met gebouwen, aangegeven met de letters A t/m T, waarbinnen de J ontbreekt. Deze letters komen terug in het beeld.
