Prud'hon, Paris, 1924, p. 357, n° 947 -- Commentaire : En 1810, Prud'hon est chargé par la ville de Paris de dessiner le décor d'une colonnade sur la place de l'Hôtel de Ville, en vue du mariage de l'empereur Napoléon et de Marie-Louise en 1810. Chacune des dix colonnes accueille une statue réalisée d'après ses dessins, représentant diverses allégories, dont la Science. Deux séries d'études de Prud'hon pour ce décor sont conservées : un ensemble de dix dessins dans la collection Marcille (dont celui pour la Science, qui passe ensuite dans la collection Beurdeley et est présenté en vente chez Christie's à Londres en 1999), et une autre collection de plus petites dimensions, dont est issue ce dessin, qui est transmise par Prud'hon à son ami Boisfremont. | ||||||||||||||||||||
