| Description |
English: Public footpath and gate. This north-easterly facing photograph was taken from near the top corner of a field (behind the viewpoint) where the footpath has been marginalized by the introduction of a barbed wire fence.
This gate is across the footpath and I'm not exactly sure if the intention was that walkers should, perhaps, pass between the two posts to its left. However, irrespective of the intention, it is not possible to pass between the posts because of barbed wire strung between them and the relative narrowness of the gap. This means that progress has to be made via the gate, which is heavy and has either been poorly installed or badly maintained because a significant amount of weight rests upon the locking mechanism. This weight makes the locks and catches difficult to operate (particularly from this side) and when the gate is opened it drops a few centimetres. The gate provides access to the public footpath (ahead and behind) and another locked gate (a few metres behind the viewpoint). Its practical purpose is unclear.
