Description Puente la Reina (Gares, cooficialmente en euskera) es una villa situada en la Comunidad Foral de Navarra (España), en la merindad de Pamplona, a 24 km de la capital de esta comunidad (Pamplona) y en la comarca de Valdizarbe. Esta villa es un punto muy importante en el camino de Santiago. La tradición dice que el nombre de Puente la Reina proviene del puente románico sobre el río Arga, que fue mandado construir en el siglo XI por una anónima reina de Navarra. Generalmente se hace referencia a que esta reina fue Doña Mayor, esposa de Sancho el Mayor o Doña Estefanía, mujer de García el de Nájera.
