| Description |
pussypaws, Calyptridium umbellatum, Nevada, White Mountains, Sugarloaf, Queen Valley - Owens Valley drainage, elevation 2679 m (8790 ft). This species is common and widespread in the higher mountains of the interior northwestern United States and adjacent southwestern Canada. It is found mainly in exposed rocky sites up to the highest elevations, over 4300 meters (14,000 feet) in the region. The species differs from the similar Calyptridium paniculatum (=C. monospermum) in having only a single flowering stem (versus many) per leaf rosette -- though in compact plants the rosettes can be so crowded as to appear like one with multiple stems. |
