Beautiful looking red boulders at this location, north of Emigrant Pass.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Quartzite is metamorphic, having altered from slate, the slate altering from shale. In this area, some shale is decomposing back to soft clay. As to whether this is actually quartzite, that remains in question.
